Radial Drilling Machine

All geared radial drilling machines, 40 to 60 mm

Double column radial drills with hardened and ground spindles and gears, in four sizes from a 40 mm machine on a 1300 mm arm to a 60 mm hydraulic. The spindle comes to the work, so heavy components stay where they are.

Radial drill buying questions

Radial drill or pillar drill?
On a pillar drill you move the work under a fixed spindle. On a radial the arm swings and the head slides along it, so the spindle comes to the hole instead. Once a component is too heavy to lift and reposition — a gearbox casing, a fabricated frame, a flange plate — the radial is the only sensible answer.
Mechanical or hydraulic clamping?
Mechanical clamping is tightened by hand and costs less. Hydraulic clamps the column, arm and head at the touch of a lever, and on the larger models it also shifts the gears. If the operator repositions many times an hour, hydraulic pays back quickly in time and in wrists.
Which size do I need?
Two numbers: the largest hole you drill in mild steel, and how far the hole sits from the edge of the work. Drilling capacity runs 40, 50 and 60 mm, and the arm reach runs from 1100 to 1600 mm from the column face.
What is spindle taper and why does it matter?
It is the socket the tooling fits into. MT-4 on the 40 mm machine, MT-5 on the 50 and 60. Check it against tooling you already own before ordering, since sleeves are an avoidable nuisance.
What comes with the machine?
Electrical panel, coolant system, machine lamp, drill chuck, arbour, box table, sleeve and complete electricals.
