10 Feet Lathe Machine
PAL1018 · belt drive cone pulley lathe · manufactured in Batala since 1950
First of the heavy sizes. From here the range moves to a semi-Norton gearbox with the 23 change gear set, and the bed is built for continuous running rather than intermittent job work. A 32 inch swing over an 18 inch bed, and 1,800 kg of cast iron under the cut.
Ex-works Batala, before GST and freight. Bed width, bore, chuck size and accessories change the figure. Ask us for today’s best price — we quote against your actual requirement and there is usually room to work with on a firm order.

Other sizes
Compare bed lengths and prices
The standard range runs from 4.5 feet to 30 feet in nine bed lengths. Prices below are starting figures ex-works.
What it will take
Jobs the 10 foot machine is bought for
Shafts and rolls to 2,000 mm
Rolling mill rolls, sugar mill shafts, paper mill rolls and long line shafts. The first size in our range genuinely suited to mill maintenance work.
Components to 800 mm diameter
A 32 inch swing over the bed. Large flanges, gear blanks, rope drums, pulleys and turbine components.
Continuous production running
The semi-Norton box and heavier bed are built for running all day rather than intermittent job work.
Boring and facing large housings
With a faceplate the machine handles pump housings, gearbox casings and bearing housings that will not fit a smaller swing.
Choosing
Is this the right size?
Why the range changes at 10 feet
Everything from 4.5 to 8 feet uses a full Norton gearbox. From 10 feet upward we move to a semi-Norton box with a 23 piece change gear set. This is not a downgrade — it is a different design intent. The semi-Norton arrangement puts fewer gears under constant load, which on a machine expected to run continuously means less wear and cheaper long-term maintenance.
The bed also changes character. At 1,800 kg there is enough mass to hold a heavy roughing cut on a long component without chatter, which is the whole reason mill maintenance departments buy this size.
10 feet or 12 feet?
Bed length and bed width are chosen separately on our machines, so the question is rarely just length. A 10 foot bed on a 24 inch width will out-perform a 12 foot bed on an 18 inch width for heavy diameter work. If your components are long but light, go to 12 feet. If they are shorter but heavy, stay at 10 feet and buy the wider bed.
Before it arrives
Floor space, foundation and power
Space and foundation
Allow about 3.9 m × 1.8 m for the machine, 1 m behind for drive access and 2.2 m at the tailstock. Working footprint around 6.5 m × 3.2 m. At 1,800 kg we recommend a 250 mm concrete bed with foundation bolts and grouting. Foundation drawing and levelling instructions supplied with the machine.
Electrical supply
3 HP standard, 5 HP on the wider beds. 3-phase 415 V. Allow a 10 HP supply if you are running coolant and a bar feeder.
Transport and unloading
Roughly 1,800 kg, single unit on an open truck. A hydra is needed at your end. Typically 3 to 5 days to central and western India from Batala.
