6 Feet Lathe Machine
PAL614 · belt drive cone pulley lathe · manufactured in Batala since 1950
The size most Indian workshops buy first, and the one we sell more of than any other. A 24 inch swing over a 14 inch bed handles the majority of general turning, and the 3 to 7 inch bore range covers most pipe and bar work. If you are unsure between this and 8 feet, the deciding question is the longest shaft you expect to turn in the next five years, not the next five months.

Who buys this size
Where the 6 foot machine is used
General engineering job shops, repair workshops, agricultural implement makers, small production units and ITI training workshops.
Every machine is inspected and test run at our works before despatch, with an inspection and dispatch certificate issued against it. Foundation drawing, installation guidance and commissioning support are part of the supply. We despatch across India and export regularly to Nepal, Bangladesh, Africa and the Middle East.

The standard range runs from 4.5 feet to 30 feet in nine bed lengths. Prices below are starting figures ex-works.
What it will take
Jobs the 6 foot machine is bought for
Shafts and spindles to 1,000 mm
Pump shafts, gearbox shafts, agricultural implement spindles. The 6 foot bed gives roughly 3 feet between centres once the tailstock and chuck are accounted for, which covers the large majority of general shaft work.
Pulleys, flanges and couplings to 600 mm
A 24 inch swing takes a 600 mm diameter over the bed. V-belt pulleys, pipe flanges, brake drums and coupling halves all sit comfortably.
Pipe threading to 7 inch bore
With the larger bore option the machine will pass 7 inch pipe through the spindle for threading — common work for borewell, plumbing and irrigation shops.
Bushes, pins and repair turning
The everyday bread and butter of a job shop: making a bush, skimming a pin, re-cutting a worn thread.
Choosing
Is this the right size?
6 feet or 8 feet?
This is the decision most first-time buyers face, and the honest answer is that it depends on one number: the longest component you will hold between centres. If almost everything you turn is under 900 mm, the 6 foot machine is the right buy and the extra ₹50,000 for the 8 foot is better spent on a bigger chuck or a taper attachment.
Move up to 8 feet if you regularly turn long shafts, if you expect to take on rolling mill or sugar mill repair work, or if your bore requirement is above 7 inches. The 8 foot machine also brings a 28 inch swing against 24, which matters more often than people expect — a 700 mm flywheel will not go over a 6 foot bed.
One thing that is not a reason to go up a size: assuming you will grow into it. A 6 foot machine running eight hours a day earns more than an 8 foot machine running two.
Before it arrives
Floor space, foundation and power
Space and foundation
Allow roughly 2.6 m × 1.4 m of floor for the machine itself, plus 800 mm behind for belt access and at least 1.2 m clear at the tailstock end for loading bar stock. Total working footprint is about 4.5 m × 2.5 m. At 800 kg the machine does not need a deep foundation — a level 150 mm concrete floor with foundation bolts is sufficient in most workshops. We supply the foundation drawing with the machine.
Electrical supply
2 HP main motor, 3-phase 415 V. Total connected load with coolant pump is under 3 HP, so a 5 HP supply is comfortable.
Transport and unloading
Ships as a single unit on an open truck. Roughly 800 kg, so a small hydra or three men and a ramp will unload it. Reaches most of north India in 2 to 3 days from despatch.
