Where 6 feet runs short. Our most exported size. The step up brings a 28 inch swing, a 16 inch bed and bore to 10 inches, which is the point at which the machine stops being a general workshop lathe and starts handling production work. Still on a full Norton gearbox, so threading capability is unchanged.

Where the 8 foot machine is used
Production job shops, pipe and pump work, automotive component turning, and the size most commonly exported to Nepal, Bangladesh and Africa.
Every machine is inspected and test run at our works before despatch, with an inspection and dispatch certificate issued against it. Foundation drawing, installation guidance and commissioning support are part of the supply. We despatch across India and export regularly to Nepal, Bangladesh, Africa and the Middle East.

Shafts to 1,500 mm between centres
Rolling mill shafts, sugar mill spindles, long pump shafts and screw conveyor shafts. This is the size at which the machine starts earning on repair contracts rather than only job work.
Flywheels and pulleys to 700 mm
The 28 inch swing takes a 700 mm diameter over the bed — tractor flywheels, large V-belt pulleys, brake drums and rope drums.
Pipe threading to 10 inch bore
With the big bore option the spindle passes 10 inch pipe. Borewell casing, ERW and GI pipe threading is steady work in most states.
Production turning
At 1,300 kg the machine holds a cut well enough for repeat batch work, not only one-off repair.

Is this the right size?
8 feet or 10 feet?
The 8 foot machine is our most exported size, and for good reason: it is the largest bed that still runs on a full Norton gearbox and a 3 HP motor, which keeps both the price and the running cost down. It handles the overwhelming majority of commercial job work in India.
Step up to 10 feet when the work becomes continuous rather than intermittent. The 10 foot machine moves to a semi-Norton box with the 23 change gear set and a heavier bed built for running all day. If you are doing rolling mill roll work, or turning components above 800 mm diameter, the extra mass is worth paying for.
8 feet against a used imported machine
Buyers often weigh a new 8 foot Batala lathe against a second-hand European or Taiwanese machine at a similar price. The imported machine may have better original accuracy. The question to ask is who will supply a lead screw, an apron gear or a headstock bearing for it in three years, and how long you will wait. Our parts come from Batala and reach you in days.

Space and foundation
Allow roughly 3.2 m × 1.6 m for the machine, 900 mm behind for belt and motor access, and 1.8 m clear at the tailstock for bar loading. Working footprint about 5.5 m × 2.8 m. At 1,300 kg a level 200 mm concrete floor with foundation bolts is adequate; a separate pit is not required. Foundation drawing supplied.
Electrical supply
3 HP main motor, 3-phase 415 V. With coolant pump the connected load is about 4 HP. A 7.5 HP supply gives headroom for the bigger bore models.
Transport and unloading
Single unit, roughly 1,300 kg. Needs a hydra or forklift at your end. We load at our works and it reaches Delhi NCR overnight, Gujarat and UP in 3 to 4 days.
